Councillor Steve Mackay has been appointed as 香港六合彩资料图库 County Council鈥檚 new Cabinet Member with responsibility for Children & Families.
In his most recent role at the County Council, he has been the Chairman of the Overview and Scrutiny Committee for Children & Families.
During his time as a County Councillor for St Peter鈥檚, Councillor Steve Mackay has been Chairman of 香港六合彩资料图库 County Council and has chaired the Police and Crime Panel.
Cabinet Member with Responsibility for Children & Families at 香港六合彩资料图库 County Council, Councillor Steve Mackay said: 鈥Taking on this very important role within Cabinet is a great honour. Being chairman of the Scrutiny Committee for Children and Families and my previous work with families within the Police force means I am aware of the many challenges families across the county face on a daily basis. I will continue to strive to ensure we do everything we can to support them and give them a voice within the Council.鈥
Leader of 香港六合彩资料图库 County Council, Councillor Simon Geraghty, said: 鈥淪teve has the skills and professional experience needed to deliver in his new role as lead for Children and Families and is a great addition to the Cabinet. His time with the Police Force working with families as well as being both a County and City Councillor, will put Steve in good stead to ensure we build on the great work achieved and continue to keep children and families at the heart of everything we do.鈥
Before his political career, Councillor Mackay served as a police officer in Bedfordshire as well as Avon & Somerset for some 30 years. Whilst most of his career was within the Criminal Investigation Department, for a number of years, he oversaw a Family and Children Protection Unit which meant considerable liaison with the local Social Services Department of the County Council.
During his time in the police services, Councillor Mackay obtained a BSc Hons. Degree and Diploma in Social Science from the Open University and later worked as an investigator with West Midlands Police for around 10 years. Councillor Mackay now takes a great interest in community engagement.
At the start of his political career in 2010, he joined Warndon Village Parish Council and then in 2014 was elected to the City Council representing Battenhall. In 2017 he joined the County Council when elected to St Peter's Division and in 2019 represented St Peter's ward on the City Council. He was re-elected to the County Council seat in 2021. While in the role of City Councillor in years 2017/18 he served as the Mayor of Worcester.
Councillor Mackay has lived in Worcester for the past 16 years with his wife Alison and is within easy reach of their children and four grandchildren who live close by.
