The recommendation to develop a new service that will support people’s health and wellbeing as they older has been passed at the County Council’s recent Cabinet meeting (26 October 2023). 

The Healthy ������ϲ�����ͼ�� Programme will specifically aim to improve people’s strength and balance, promote healthy lifestyles and help people stay socially connected and, safe from crime as they get older.

The programme will include weekly sessions that could be run in local venues, close to where people are living and within the heart of communities. 

These sessions will include strength and balance programmes, healthy lifestyle advice, community safety information and links to a wide range of other health-promoting activities in the local community. 

Councillor Karen May, cabinet member for Health and Wellbeing at ������ϲ�����ͼ�� County Council said: “The new programme will engage with all of our communities for better health outcomes. We realise how important it is to have a one-stop shop to look after your health. 

“This programme will provide a positive experience for our residents which enables them to achieve the best physical, mental, and social wellbeing possible.”

The new programme supports the Council’s corporate plan: Shaping ������ϲ�����ͼ��'s Future, which sets a clear ambition to “support ������ϲ�����ͼ�� residents to become more active, healthy and self-reliant in managing their health for as long as they can.”

The Joint Local Health and Wellbeing Strategy (JLHWS), which Public Health in ������ϲ�����ͼ�� has endorsed, reinforces this ambition through a commitment to improve mental health and wellbeing, supporting people to live well in good health for as long as possible, particularly those who have poorer health outcomes.
