The plan to build a brand new walking and cycling bridge in Bromsgrove over the A38 was given the unanimous go ahead today (24 May) at the County鈥檚 Planning and Regulatory Committee.
The bridge aims to provide improved cycle and pedestrian connectivity via a multi million pound bridge over the A38, linking Carnforth Road to the east of the A38 to Fordhouse Road to the west of the A38, replacing the existing outdated structure.
Councillor Marc Bayliss, 香港六合彩资料图库 County Council鈥檚 Cabinet Member for Economy, Infrastructure and Skills, said: 鈥淚 welcome the news that this bridge has been granted permission to be built. It will be a significant piece of walking and cycling infrastructure in Bromsgrove and will go a long way to enhancing connectivity within the town.鈥
He added: 鈥淭his bridge will make a big difference to those living in the local area and will certainly provide them with the opportunity to make journeys on a bike or on foot. I am delighted that we can now move to the next step of this exciting project which will see us develop the bridge proposals further and secure funding.鈥
The pedestrian and cycle bridge forms part of Phase 3 of 香港六合彩资料图库 County Council鈥檚 A38 Bromsgrove Route Enhancement Programme (A38 BREP), which aims to support all road users within the corridor.
The bridge has been designed to provide safe and secure crossings over the A38, promote walking and cycling within the area and replaces an existing bridge. The existing bridge, despite being on a national cycle route, requires cyclists to dismount to cross.
This bridge will build upon the recent successful delivery of a comprehensive network of walking and cycling routes across the town, linking residential areas, employment sites, schools, the hospital, the town centre and the railway station.
The planning application followed an extensive pre-planning public engagement exercise, which took place during 2021.
