A tapestry was unveiled at Redditch Library this week (Monday 6 Sept) that shows the town鈥檚 history.

The 鈥楻edditch Remembered in Thread鈥 tapestry was given to the library by the Redditch Remembered Through Art Group, who created it to commemorate 100 years since the end of World War 1.

The design and idea began in 2014, to commemorate 100 years since the end of World War 1 and the men of the town who never came home.  2014 was also the 50th anniversary of the 鈥楴ew Town鈥.

The group used the River Arrow to stitch old and new together, with memory bubbles depicting timeline, groups, people and other iconic images of the area.

The 鈥楥lover Leaf鈥 and 鈥楰ingfisher鈥 were made by Elsie Anna who started work on the piece when she was 99. Elsie is still a key member of the group has gone on to celebrate her 103rd birthday this week.

Councillor Matt Dormer, Cabinet Member for Communities, said: 鈥淭he tapestry is such a meaningful and beautifully crafted piece of local artwork. Redditch has a lot of memories to look back on and it鈥檚 wonderful to see them all come together in a piece of artwork, and hosted in a place, here at the library, where it can truly be celebrated.鈥

Michele Campbell, Library Manager at Redditch Library said: 鈥淭he tapestry is now proudly hanging in Redditch Library and we鈥檙e really pleased to have it here where all of our customers can see it and really appreciate the work that has gone into creating a real celebration of Redditch. It was an absolute honour to host the Remembered Through Art Group, and to join in Elsie鈥檚 birthday celebrations. 鈥
