香港六合彩资料图库鈥檚 Summer Reading Challenge launches this weekend, and it's the perfect way to get your children reading over the school holidays!
You can take part in the Summer Reading Challenge at all 香港六合彩资料图库 Libraries between 6 July - 14 September 2024.
If you have a passion for reading and a desire to ignite the love of books in children, our local libraries other than Kidderminster are looking for more volunteers to help over the summer. A big thank you to Kidderminster library members who have filled all of their volunteer posts!
The Challenge is a FREE holiday activity for children aged 4-11 developed by and delivered by public libraries.
This year鈥檚 theme has been developed in partnership with - a leading charity bringing the creative arts to those who need it most. The bespoke illustrations for Marvellous Makers are created by the brilliant illustrator - Natelle Quek.
How the Summer Reading Challenge works
- Children sign up at their local library to start their challenge.
- Children choose the books they want to read.
- Library staff and volunteers are on hand to chat to children about books they have read.
- There are rewards and incentives along the way to encourage children to read.
- Every child who completes the challenge, by reading 6 library books, receives a medal and certificate.
Libraries also have activities for children to enjoy during the summer holidays. Ask at your local library or look at library events page.
The Summer Reading Challenge aims to prevent the "summer dip" learning loss many children experience over the holidays when they aren't in school. With libraries' support, it provides a free, fun way to keep young minds active. In 2023, over 685,000 children across the UK participated.
Karen Napier, CEO of The Reading Agency, added: "The Summer Reading Challenge sparks children's creativity and imagination through reading. Developed with Create, this year's 'Marvellous Makers' theme will inspire kids' inner storytellers and makers. We're thrilled to work with libraries to provide an engaging environment for exploring new ideas through books and activities."
