Advanced Manufacturing and Engineering - Cycle Mechanic

As a Cycle Mechanic you would repair and build bikes. You would work with a wide range of cycle equipment. You would get involved in repairing e-bikes and scooters, identifying faults, and completing full pre delivery inspections as well as servicing and repairing bikes and scooters.
- Build a new bike to a customer's specification
- Identify problems with a bike and inform the customer how much it will cost to repair
- Carry out repairs, maintenance tasks and replace parts
- Order bike parts and keep a record of the parts in stock
- Take bookings for repairs and process paperwork
- Liaise with suppliers and dealers
- Attend cycling events to provide repairs and technical support
You could start as a retail assistant in a bike shop and apply for a role as a trainee mechanic. Your employer may pay for your training.
42 to 44 hours per week, this may involve working weekends.
Starting salary: 拢20,000
Experienced salary: up to 拢30,000
You'll find it useful to have a recognised qualification like the Level 2 Certificate in Cycle Maintenance. You'll usually need:
- 2 or more GCSEs at grades 9 to 3 (A* to D), or equivalent, for a level 2 course
You could also apply for an apprenticeship. If you have an EHCP you may be able to apply under the DfE exemption which allows the apprentice to use Entry level 3 English and Maths qualifications. The apprentice would have to be component enough to successfully achieve all other aspects of the apprenticeship requirements, become occupationally competent and achieve Entry Level 3 in English and Maths before the end of their apprenticeship.
