Advanced Manufacturing and Engineering - Engineering Technician

Engineering technicians mainly work in electronics, mechanics, and design. Mechanical engineering technicians design, install and repair industrial plant machinery and parts. Electronics engineering technicians design, build and maintain electronic systems and components.
- Design printed circuit boards and wiring diagrams using CAD software
- Test prototypes and analyse results
- Set up maintenance schedules for industrial and commercial equipment
- Find and fix equipment faults
- Draw up plans for new ideas, using computer-aided design (CAD) software
- Investigate and test ideas to improve existing systems and solve problems
- Install and test instruments and machinery
You could work at a manufacturing plant, in a laboratory or in an office.
Your working environment may be noisy.
Engineering Technicians work 41 to 43 hours a week and are sometimes required to work evenings/ weekends/ bank holidays on shifts
Starting salary: 拢18,000
Experienced salary: up to 拢40,000
You would normally require at least 4 or 5 GCSEs at grades 9 to 4 (A* to C) as well as A levels or a level 3 as a minimum for this career If you have an EHCP you may be able to apply under the DfE exemption which allows the apprentice to use Entry level 3 English and Maths qualifications.
The apprentice would have to be component enough to successfully achieve all other aspects of the apprenticeship requirements, become occupationally competent and achieve Entry Level 3 in English and Maths before the end of their apprenticeship.
