Fence installers put up and repair fences, gates and other barriers. These can be made from things like wood, wire, plastic, concrete, or metal.
- Read fence drawings and plans
- Measure and lay out new fence lines
- Level the ground where fencing is going to go
- Use hand tools or mechanical diggers to dig post holes
- Cut panels to size and fix them to the posts
- Repair fences and gate systems
Fence installers mainly work outdoors and in all weathers.
Most fence installers work between 37 and 40 hours a week.
Starting salary: 拢18,000
Experienced salary: up to 拢30,000
There are no set entry requirements for this role however the work involves taking measurements, doing calculations, reading instructions, and understanding plans and diagrams. Most employers will want you to have some qualifications ,whereas some employers may be more flexible. You can apply directly to employers if you have some experience in a practical job like landscape gardening or construction. You could also apply for an apprenticeship. If you have an EHCP you may be able to apply under the DfE exemption which allows the apprentice to use Entry level 3 English and Maths qualifications.
The apparent ice would have to be component enough to successfully achieve all other aspects of the apprenticeship requirements, become occupationally competent and achieve Entry Level 3 in English and Maths before the end of their apprenticeship. College - you could start off with a Diploma in Preparation for Employment Level 1 if you have no formal qualifications.
