Why swap to vapes?

Vaping is not completely harmless and we only recommend it for adult smokers, to support quitting smoking and staying quit.

Vaping is not recommended for non-smokers and young people under 18 years because it is not completely harmless. However, if you are a tobacco smoker then switching can reduce your risks of cancer, COPD and a range of smoking-caused diseases.

Vapes, or e-cigarettes, are now the most popular stop smoking aid. Many people have successfully quit by switching from cigarettes to vaping. Nicotine vaping is substantially less harmful than smoking.

How do they work?

E-cigarettes allow you to inhale nicotine through a vapour rather than smoke. By itself, nicotine is relatively harmless.

As there is no burning involved, there is no smoke. Unlike cigarettes, vapes do not produce tar and carbon monoxide. The vapour has been found to contain some toxicants also found in cigarette smoke, but at much lower levels.

It is illegal to sell vapes to under 18 year olds.  It is also illegal to sell to, or purchase vapes for under 18 year olds.

See the following videos for more information about switching to vaping

Support for pregnant women and families

Protecting your baby from tobacco smoke is one of the best things you can do to give your child a healthy start in life. It can be difficult to stop smoking, but it's never too late to quit.

If your partner or anyone else who lives with you smokes, their smoke can affect you and your baby before and after their birth.

The Maternity Smoking Support Service is for pregnant women and people in their household, whether you live in 香港六合彩资料图库 or are receiving midwifery care in the county.

The service provides face to face support with free Nicotine Replacement Therapy (NRT) and/or vapes/e-cigarettes.

Using vapes during pregnancy

Vapes or e-cigarettes are fairly new and there are still some things we do not know. However, current evidence on e-cigarettes indicates they are much less risky than smoking.

Vapes do not produce tar or carbon monoxide, the two main toxins in cigarette smoke. Carbon monoxide is particularly harmful to developing babies. The vapour from an e-cigarette does contain some of the potentially harmful chemicals found in cigarette smoke, but at much lower levels.
